Overview
Satellite tagging and tracking of southern right whales has provided new insights into their movements, behaviour, and exposure to marine industries, highlighting potential risks, and opportunities for management intervention. In this video, Professor Luciana Möller and Claire Wouters of Flinders University share the results of a Marine and Coastal Hub project that tagged four southern right whales at Encounter Bay, on South Australia’s Fleurieu Peninsula. This presentation was delivered on 17 September 2026, as part of the Marine and Coastal Hub webinar Monitoring, aggregation areas and approaches to improve data effectiveness for southern right whale conservation. The event brought together researchers to share findings from three components of Project 3.15, each contributing to knowledge of southern right whales and supporting more effective conservation and management.
